William Hurst Taylor was born in 1897 he was the son of Sampson Hurst a coal carter and Ann Ellen Taylor of 14 Botany, Mansfield. Sampson Hurst was born in 1854 at Mansfield Ann Ellen Taylor was born in 1862 at Golden Valley Derbyshire. Parents were not married, on the 1911 census the census taker crossed out "wife" and wrote in "this is his housekeeper". Sampson Hurst and Ann Ellen Taylor.
