Family History

Joseph Henry Stacey was born in 1892 he was the son of Joseph a coal miner hewer and Lizzie Stacey née Eames of 1 Priory Road, Mansfield Woodhouse. Joseph was born in 1868 at Ripley, Lizzie Eames was born in 1868 at Newhall they were married on 16th March 1890 at Newhall and went on to have 9 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family were living at 1 Priory Road, Mansfiled Woodhouse, Joseph 43 yrs is a coal miner hewer, he is living with his wife Lizzie 43 yrs and their children including joseph Henry (shown as Henry) 19 yrs a coal miner hewer. Joseph Henry married Bertha Annable (born 20th October 1894 ) married in 1913 at Mansfield they had 2 children, Violet Elizabeth born 26th June 1914 and Bertha born 15th June 1915, she died on 17th September 1917. they lived at 97 Coke Street, Mansfield Woodhouse. Commencing 1st July 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 18 shillings and 6 pence a week. His widow married Frank Standish in 1918 and lived at 56 Sheffield Street, Scunthorpe.

Military History

Private Joseph Henry Stacey enlisted at Mansfield whilst residing at Mansfield Woodhouse he served with the 12th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He landed in France on 24th September 1915 and was killed in action on 17th June 1916 he is buried at Dranoutre Military Cemetery, Belgium. Plot 1. Row F. Grave 1.
