Family History

Thomas Richards Barlow was born on 22nd November 1897 at Cropwell Bishop, he was the son of Thomas Barnett Barlow a butcher and farmer and Sarah Ann Barlow née Richards of Cropwell Bishop, Nottinghamshire. His father Thomas Barnett was born in 1866 at Keyworth, his mother Sarah Ann Richards was born in 1867 also at Keyworth, they were married in 1886 their marriage was recorded in the Bingham registration district, they went on to have 10 children. In the 1911 census the family were living at Cropwell Bishop village, Thomas Barnett Barlow 45 yrs is a butcher and farmer, he is living with his wife Sarah Ann 44 yrs and 9 of their children, including Thomas Richards Barlow 14 yrs a farm worker working on his fathers farm.

Military History

Private Thomas Richards Barlow enlisted on 17th January 1917 at Bingham, initially served with the service number 2322 in the 2/1st South Notts Hussars before transferring to the 2nd “C” Reserve Brigade Royal Field Artillery, he died on 9th May 1917 at the Bagthorpe Isolation Hospital of “spotted fever, contracted while in training at Catterick Camp.” He is buried at Cropwell Bishop (St. Giles) Churchyard.

Death notice published 12th May 1917 I the Nottingham Evening Post :- “BARLOW. – On May 9th, suddenly, at Bagthorpe Isolation Hospital, Bombardier Thomas Richards Barlow, R.F.A., aged 20 years, the dearly-loved second son of T.
