Sidney Miller was born in 1884 he was the only son of Henry a cotton mule minder and Elizabeth Miller née Sands of 16 Park Avenue, Mansfield Woodhouse. Henry was born in 1858 at Pleasley Vale, Elizabeth Sands was born in 1857 at Yalding, Kent, they were married on 25th December 1882 at Mansfield Woodhouse. Sidney married Mary Bourn (born 1st January 1884) they were married on 3rd October 1903 at Mansfield, they lived at 40 Albert Street, Mansfield Woodhouse their children were Dulcie Dora-born 13th November 1903, Ceceley Hannah-born 10h March 1905 Sidney born 15th December 1906 Marjorie born 20th August 1908, Kathleen born 20th September 1910, John born 17th October 1912, Kenneth born 29th February 1914 and Jessie Mary born 19th October 1916. Commencing 19th May 1919 his widow was awarded a pension of 50 shillings and 5 pence a week.

Military History

Sapper Sidney Miller enlisted at Mansfield, he served with the 409th Field Company, Royal Engineers. He died on 4 November 1918 and is buried in Le Rejet-de-Beaulieu Communal Cemetery, France (grave ref. B.6).
