Harry Mee was born in 1877 he was the son of the late William a frame work knitter and Elizabeth Mee née Sheppard of 42 Charles Street, Mansfield Woodhouse. William was born in 1843 at Ruddington, he died in 1910 aged 57 yrs and Elizabeth Sheppard was born in 1847 at Clifton, they were married in 1866 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have 11 children, 1 sadly died in infancy or early childhood. Harry married Charlotte Page (born 11th September 1870 ) on 25th December 1899 at the Parish church at Mansfield Woodhouse, they lived at 14 Kilburn Terrace, Mansfield Woodhouse, they had the folliwng children, Louise-born 1901, Winifred-born 16th February 1903, Lottie born 1st April 1906 and Harry born 7th June 1908. In 1911 the family lived at 1 Vale Court Mansfield Woodhouse, Harry is 33 yrs old and is a grocers assistant, he is living with his wife Charlotte 42 yrs and their 4 children. Commencing 17th June 1918 his wiodw was awarded a pension of 30 shillings and 10 pence a week.
Private Harry Mee enlisted on 30th October 1916 at Mansfield, giving his age as 39 yrs and 126 days, he occupation was that of a van man and dealer. He landed in France on 15th June 1917 and was posted to the Durham Light Infantry. He was killed in action on 17th October 1917 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial.
Mansfield Chronicle Advertiser: 29/08/1918: Pte Harry Mee of Durham Light Infantry reported missing 17/10/1917 now presumed killed on that day.
