Family History

John Lloyd was born in 1882 at Dawley Green, Shropshire he was the son of John and Sarah LLoyd of Darleston Staffordshire. John married Sarah (born 27th August 1881 ) they lived at 124 Coke Street, Mansfield Woodhouse, they had the following children, John William born 14th August 1907, Frank born 9rth September 1911 and Arthur born 16th November 1913 Commencing 23rd April 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 26 shillings and 3 pence a week. Sarah Lloyd who married Henry Stevens in 1918 and lived at 124 Coke Street Mansfield Woodhouse.

Military History

Private John Lloyd enlisted on 16th November 1914 , he served with the battalion on Gallipoli and later Egypt. Arriving in France 1 July 1916 and moving to the Arras sector. They moved to the Somme in August and took part in the Battle of Thiepval. The battalion successfully took all of its objectives but with heavy casualties. Lloyd has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval memorial Somme.
