Robert William Hunt was born in 1889 he was the son of the late Isaac Hunt a coal miner and Elizabeth Hunt née Smith of 27 George Street, Mansfield Woodhouse. Isaac was born in 1853 at Ilkeston, he died in 1900 aged 47 yrs, Elizabeth Smith was born in 1855 in London , they were married on 25th December 1873 at St Peter Church, Awsworth, they went on to have 12 children, sadly two died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 his widowed mother Elizabeth Hunt is 56 yrs of age, she is living with her children at 27 George Street, Mansfield Woodhouse. Robert William Hunt married Harriett Wilcockson, (born 16th April 1887 ) in 1907 at Mansfield, they had children: Robert William , born 27th May 1908, Ernest, born 2nd May 1909, Florence, born 23rd September 1915. and Ivy born 27th February 1918, In 1911 the family lived at 1 Thornton Terrace, George Street, Mansfield Woodhouse. Robert William was 22 yrs and is a coal miner hewer, he is living with his wife Harriett 23 yrs and their children, Robert William 2 yrs and Ernest 1 year of age. Commencing 10th February 1919 his widow was awarded a pension of 33 shillings and 9 pence a week she was residing at 9 Powis Street, Bulwell, Nottingham.

Military History

Private Robert William Hunt enlisted at Mansfield, he served with the 1/5th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was killed in action on 24th July 1918 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Loos Memorial
