Family History

John Ernest Davis was born in 1897 he was the son of Arthur a coal miner hewer and Fanny (Frances) Davis née Bramley of 19 Mansfield Road, Mansfield Woodhouse. Arthur was born in 1862 Frances Bramley was born in 1867, both were born in Hucknall, they were married on 2nd March 1886 at St Marys Church, Hucknall, they went on to have 8 children, sadly 2 died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family are living at 12 Woodhouse Road, Mansfield Woodhouse, Arthur is 48 yrs and is a coal miner hewer, he is living with his wife Fanny 43 yrs and 4 four of their children including John Ernest 14 yrs a colliery labourer (above ground)

Military History

Private John Ernest Davis enlisted at Mansfield, he served with the Sherwood Rangers in Salonika. He died on 19th June 1916 of colitis and is buried at Salonika Lambert Road, Military Cemetery, Greece.
