Family History

Hugh Corbett Dainty was baptised on 3rd March 1895 at the parish church at Collyweston, Northamptonshire, he was the son of John William a farm bailiff and Edith Mary Dainty née Grimley of The Manor House, Collyweston. In 1901 the family lived at Langwith and in 1911 they were at 60 High Street, Mansfield Woodhouse. John William was born in 1867 at Exton, Rutland, Edith Mary Grimley was born in 1868 at Sutton Bridge, they were married on 11th June 1890 at Sutton Bridge, Lincolnshire they went on to have 5 children In 1911 the family was living at 60 High Street, Mansfield Woodhouse, Edith Mary is 43 yrs (married) and is living with three of her children, Dorothy May 12 yrs, Winifred 9 yrs and Hugh Corbett 16 yrs a coal miner.

Military History

Hugh Corbett Dainty served under the name of George Franklin, he enlisted in Coventry and served with the 3rd battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps, he landed in France on 20th December 1916. He died of wounds on 15th June 1918 and is buried at Etaples Military Cemetery.

Extra Information

Mansfield Chronicle Advertiser: 17/06/1915: Hugh had been lying critically ill in Etaples, his mother had gone to be with him. Two of his brothers served in the Great War and both survived it Captain Wiliam Reginald Dainty served with the Royal Navy, he died in 1952 Second Lieutenant John Gordon Dainty initially served with the Royal Engineers, he later joined the Royal Flying Corps, he died in 1974.
