Francis Harold Boam was born in 1899 he was the son of Frank a coal miner hewer and Fanny Boam née Bray of 63 Old Mill Lane, Mansfield Woodhouse. Frank was born in 1876 at Newhall Fanny Bray was born in 1876 at Stanton, Derbyshire, they were married in 1897 their marriage was recorded in Burton upon Trent, they had 4 children their other children were Elizabeth, Nellie and William. In 1911 the family living at 13 Vallance Street, Mansfield Woodhouse, Frank 35 yrs is a coal miner hewer, he is living with his wife Fanny 35 yrs and their 4 children including Harold 12 yrs

Military History

Private Francis Harold Boam enlisted on 16th February 1917 at Mansfield, giving his age as 18 yrs and 2 months he served with the 2nd battalion Durham Light Infantry, . He was killed in action on 21st March 1918, Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
