Family History

Jonathon Shooter was born in 1892 he was the son of William a platelayer and the late Olite Shooter née Dove of 5 Vallance Square, Nottingham Road, Mansfield. William was born in 1868 at Sutton in Ashfield, Olite Dove was born in 1872 at Sutton in Ashfield she died in 1905 aged 33 yrs, they were married on 28th October 1889 at St Mary's Church, Sutton in Ashfield they had 7 children, sadly 3 died in infancy or childhood. In 1911 the family lived at 5 Vallance Square, Nottingham Road, Mansfield, William 43 yrs is a widow and is a platelayer for the Midland Railway, he is living with his four children, Elizabeth 21 yrs a cotton doubler, Jonathon 19 yrs a platelayer for the Midland Railway, Susan 14 yrs and Sarah Ann 12 yrs. He married Elsie May Willmott in 1914 they lived at 22 Rosemary Street, Mansfield. Commencing 7th February 1916 his widow was awarded a pension of 10 shillings a week. His widow Elsie married Bertram Storey in 1923.

Military History

Private Jonathon Shooter enlisted at Mansfield, he served with the 2nd battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, he had initially served with the service number 1345 in The Leicestershire Regiment. He landed in France on 26th March 1915. He was killed in action on 9th May 1915, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial.
