Fred Adcock was born on 26th August 1886 at Mansfield and was the son of Frank a railway worker and Sarah Hodgkinson Adcock née Wilson of 23 Lord Street, Mansfield his siblings were Mary Ann born 1881 Mansfield and John born 1883 Mansfield. Frank Adcock and Sarah Hodgkinson Wilson were both born in 1857 at Mansfield, they were married in 1880 at Mansfield they had 3 children. The family lived at 23 Lord Street, Mansfield.

Military History

Private Fred Adcock enlisted on 31st August 1914 in Skegness giving his age as 28 yrs and 7 days, he was a plumber he was posted to the Lincolnshire Regimental Depot on 2nd September 1914 where he was posted on 3rd September to 6th battalion Lincolnshire Regiment. He went out on 1st July 1915 to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force eventually arriving at Gallipoli. He was initially reported as missing in action on 9th August 1915 and on 12th August 1916 this was official confirmed and he was reported as killed in action on or since 9th August 1915. He has no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Gallipoli.

The family headstone at Mansfield Cemetery reads " In loving memory of Frank Adcock died June 5th 1913 aged 74 years , Sarah his beloved wife died Oct 14th 1935 aged 78 years, Frederick their beloved son killed at Gallipoli Aug 9th 1915 aged 28 years 'At Rest' "
