Family History

Arthur Cecil Glover was born in 1892 he was the son of John a midland railway plate layer and Emma Glover née Pick of Scalford, Leicestershire. John was born in 1858 and Emma was born in 1861 both were born in Scalford, they were married on 12th April 1883 their marriage was recorded in the Melton Mowbray registration district, they went on to have 9 children, sadly two died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family were living at King Street, Scalford, John 53 yrs is a Midland railway plate layer, he is living with his wife Emma 50 yrs and two of their children, Harry 12 yrs and Dorothy 6 yrs In 1911 Arthur has left the family home, he is living in Scalford village with John Edward Green a baker, he is shown as being 19 yrs single a bakers assistant, also living with him is his younger brother Ernest 15 rs single and is an apprentice baker. Arthur married Dora Forst (born 17th September 1895 ) in 1916 their marriage was recorded in the Whittlesey, Cambridge registration district they had a son Arthur born 2nd December 1916. Commencing 16th December 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 20 shilings and 5 pence a week, at this time she was living at Thorney Low, Peterborough.

Military History

Private Arthur Cecil Glove enlisted at Mansfield , he initially served with the service number 41079 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was killed in action on 16th April 1918 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial, Belgium.
