Parents: Joseph and Elizabeth Dodd of 27 Wood Street, Mansfield. Joseph was a butcher and Charles worked for him.
Private Charles William Dodd, served with the 1st Battalion Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry, he was killed in action on 8th May 1917. He is commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
In memoriam published 1st June 1917 in the Mansfield Reporter and Sutton Times :- “DODD. – Private Charles William Dodd, Duke of Cornwall L.I., killed in action, May 8th, 1917, aged 26. “A bitter blow, a shock severe, “To part with one I loved so dear; “I never new what pain he had, “I never saw him die; “I only know he passed away, “Without a last good-bye. “ – Edith.” Above in memoriam is courtesy of Jim Grundy and his facebook pages Small Town Great War Hucknall 1914-1918
