George Brightwell was born in 1891 at Northampton he was the son of Alfred William a foreman in a boot factory and Mary Ann Brightwell née Beasley of 3 Welbeck Street, Mansfield. Alfred William was born in 1867, Mary Ann Beasley was born in 1868 both were born in Northampton, they were married on 4th August 1890 at Duston, Northampton, they had 2 other children, Cyril born 1894 and Fred born 1901 both were born in Northampton. In 1911 the family were living at 3 Welbeck Street, Mansfield Alfred 44 yrs a foreman clicker at a boot factory is living with his wife Mary Ann 43 yrs and their 3 children, George 20 yrs is a coal miner loader.

Military History

Private George Brightwell enlisted on 06th December 1915 at Mansfield, giving his age as 24 yrs and 344 days, his address was 3 Welbeck Street, Mansfield, his next of kin was his father Alfred of the same address. Posted to the reserves he was mobilised for war on 3rd May 1916 and posted with the service number 45021 into the Sherwood Foresters. Transferred to Royal Scots on 11th May 1916 he landed in France on 27th June 1916 he was wounded, a gun shot wound to the head on 1st October 1918, he died of is wounds on 5th October 1918 and is buried at Haringhe (Bandaghem ) Military Cemetery,Belgium
