Family History

Howard was born in 1890 in Brough, East Yorkshire and was the son of Howard Dawes, a foreign corn trade manager, and Eliza Dorthea Burbidge née Smith of Brough, East Yorkshire. His father Howard was born in 1860 in Sheffiled and his mother Eliza Dorthea Smith was also born in 1860 in Hull, they were married in 1884 in Sculcoates, East Yorkshire and went on to have 5 children. In the 1911 census the family are living in Brough, East Yorkshire and are shown as Howard Dawes Burbidge 51 yrs a foreign corn trade manager, he is living with his wife Eliza Dorthea 51 yrs and their children Lille Sybil 25 yrs , Lesley 24 yrs and Howard Churchill 21 yrs single and a corn miller. On his probate proven in London on 9th November 1916 he is shown as Howard Churchill Burbidge of Brough, Yorkshire a second lieutenant 13th battalion East Yorkshire Regiment, who died 13th September 1916 at 1st Casualty Clearing Station, France whilst on active service. Effects £3304. 12shillings and 9 pence. Administration to his father, Howard Dawes Burbidge.
