HMS Harmala
At 04.11 hours on 7 Feb 1943, U-614 fired a spread of three torpedoes at convoy SC-118 southeast of Cape Farewell and observed two detonations on the target and one on a ship beyond. However, the only ship hit was the steam merchantman Harmala (Master Harry Chessman Walker), which sank. The master, 31 crew members, ten gunners, including Able Seaman Albert Brown from Wollaton, Nottingham and one naval signalman were lost. Eleven crew members were picked up by FFL Lobelia (K 05) (Capt P. de Morsier) and landed at Greenock. (uboat.net)
