Born 1894 the son of John Hardman. His mother had died by the time George was seven. John was from Lancashire and George's older brother Frank was also born in Lancashire. John was a railway labourer and in 1901 he was living at No 17 Manvers Street Netherfield with his sons George and Frank and his unmarried older sister Sarah Jane who was keeping house for them all. The family were still there in 1911 but both sons had left school and were in employment. Frank was working on the railways with his Father whilst George was an apprentice Blacksmith of 13, Manvers Street Netherfield Nottingham.
Lance Corporal George Hardman enlisted in Nottingham. He served with the 1st battalion Seaforth Highlanders. He was killed in action in the Persian Gulf and is commemorated on the Basra memorial in Iraq. He was eligible for the British and Victory medals
In memoriam published 21st April 1919 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “HARDMAN. – In loving memory of Lance-Corpl. George Hardman, late 13 Manvers-street, Netherfield, fell in action, Persian Gulf, April 21st, 1917.
