Family History

William Holes Daykin was born in 1884 the son of Emma Daykin and the brother of Ernest Henry Daykin William married Mary Ann Parsons (born 5th August 1886 ) on 20th May 1907 at the Nottingham Registry Office they lived at 28 Manvers Street, Netherfield and went on to have 4 children, Beatrice born 1908, William born 1911, Mary Ellen born 1914 and Ernest Henry Reginald born 1916. In 1911 the family were living at 38 Manvers Street, Netherfield, William 27 yrs an iron moulder is living with his wife Mary 24 YRS and their daughter Beatrice 2 yrs of age. Commencing 15th January 1917 his widow Mary was awarded a pension of 22 shillings and 6 pence a week.

Military History

Lance Corporal William Daykin enlisted on 12th June 1915 at Nottingham, giving his age as 31 yrs and 6 months, he was an iron worker and married. Posted to the Sherwood Foresters Regiment he was mobilised for war on 8th September 1915 at Nottingham and landed in France on 6th March 1916. Promoted to Lance Corporal on 18th April 1916 he was killed in action on 29th June 1916 and is buried at Le Touret Military Cemetery, Richebourg-L'Avoue

Extra Information

His brother Ernest Henry Daykin also served and died in the Great War, he served with the West Yorkshire Regiment with service number 13676. He landed in France on 13th July 1915 and was killed in action on 14th September 1916.
