Family History

John Wood was born in 1890 at Carrington, Nottingham and was the son of John Wood and the late Ann Wood. His father John Wood was born in 1842 in Derbyshire and his mother Ann Wood was born in 1856 at Derbyshire, she died in 1906 aged 49 yrs. they had the following children, John b1890, Hannah b1891, Mary b1892, Elizabeth b1897 and Margaret b1898, all were born in Nottingham In the 1911 census he is living at 3 New Street, Carrington with his sisters they are shown as John 21 yrs a printer compositor, Hannah 19 yrs a lace net mender, Mary 18 yrs a domestic day girl, Elizabeth 14 yrs a lace net mender and Margaret 13 yrs a scholar. John Wood married his wife Lillian Bates (born 12th March 1893 ) in 1916 at Nottingham, they lived at 3A, New St., Carrington, Nottingham. His widow Lillian was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week which commenced on 28th January 1918.

Military History

Lance Corporal John Wood enlisted at Guildford, Surrey whilst residing at Carrington, Nottingham, he served with the 15th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment he was killed in action on 13th July 1917 and is buried at Villers-Faucon Communal Cemetery
