Thomas Richards was born in 1883 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late George Richards a confectionary dealer and Eliza Richards née Westby of 48 Hucknall Road, Carrinton. George was born in 1848 in Carrington,he died in 1912 aged 64 yrs, Eliza Westby was born in1847 at Nottingham, they were married on 22nd August 1868 at St Pauls Church, Nottingham, they went on to have 11 children sadly 4 were to die in infancy or early childhood. Thomas married Gertrude Brealey (born 1883 Nottingham) on 26th December 1903 at St John’s Church, Carrington, they had 2 children, Thomas born 1905 and Robert Born 1907. In the 1911 census his parents are living at 48 Hucknall Road, Carrington, George 63 yrs is a confectionary dealer, he is living with his wife Eliza 64 yrs and their daughter Ellen 26 yrs a lace mender. In the same 1911 census Thomas is living at 6 Bernard Terrace, Bernard Street, Carrington, Thomas 28 yrs is a silversmiths porter, he is living with his wife Gertrude 28 yrs and their 2 sons Thomas 6 yrs and Robert 4yrs. His widow lived at 4 Sherbrooke Road, Carrington.

Military History

Private Thomas Richards enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Carrington, he served with the 4th battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 3rd May 1917 and is buried at St Patricks Cemetery, Loos, France.
