James Martin

James Martin was born in 1876 at Burton upon Trent and was the son of the late Patrick a bricklayers labourer and the late and Mary Martin née Jordan of Burton upon Trent. His father Patrick was born in 1839 at Dunmore Ireland, he died in 1900 at Burton upon Trent, aged 61 yrs, his mother Mary Jordon was born in 1838 in Clair, Ireland, she died in 1911 aged 72 yrs. They were married on 17th May 1863 at Fordbridge Catholic Chapel, Burton upon Trent, they went on to have the following children, Catherine b1862, John b1864, Margaret b1867, Thomas b1870, Annie b1872, James b1876, Mary Ellen b1879 and Kate born 1883 all were born in Burton upon Trent. In the 1911 census James was a visitor at 82 Hucknall Road, Carrington, he is visiting Thomas Jepson 43 yrs a brewers cooper and his family, also he is shown as being 35 yrs and a builders labourer and is single, another visitor at the address is Sarah Mellors 33 yrs a single domestic servant (his future wife.) James married his wife Sarah Mellors on 29th July 1911 at Nottingham, they lived at 45 Fisher Street, Hyson Green, Nottingham, they had two children, James born 26th September 1911 and John born 5th September 1913. His widow Sarah died in 1920 His pension record card shows the guardian of his children was Mabel Loach of 50 Mitchell Street, Radford.
