John William Clark was born in 1881 at Nottingham, he married his wife Sarah Elizabeth West on 21st November 1903 at the Nottingham Registrar office, they lived at 12 Mabel Terrace, Birkin Ave, Hyson Green at the time of the marriage they later lived at 55 Bateman Street Hyson Green Nottingham. They had the following children, William Ernest born 31st August 1905, George born 24th September 1906, Frederick born 25th June 1908, Edna May born 20th February 1913 and Stanley born 5th May 1914.

Military History

Private John William Clark enlisted at Nottingham on 16th November 1914, he gave his age as 33 yrs and 6 months, his address was 12 Mabel Terrace, Birkin Ave,and his occupation was that of a lace factory hand. He was posted to the Sherwood Foresters Regiment and landed in France on 28th July 1915 he was later transferred to Labour Corps with the service number 403374 . He was discharged from the army on 3rd July 1918 and awarded a Silver War Badge he died on 20th October 1918 and is buried in the Nottingham General Cemetery where his name is commemorated on the Screen Wall
