Wallace Smith Fearn was born in 1890 at Old Basford He married Eliza Smith (born 1st March 1894 ) in 1915, their marriage was recorded in the Luton Registration district. they lived at 43 Browns Croft Old Basford, Nottingham. Following his death his widow Eliza was awarded a pension of 15 shillings a week which commenced on 24th December 1917. His widow Eliza re married in Nottingham in 1924 to Charles William Hodgkinson. Wallace's probate was proven on 10th October 1940 at Nottingham, and shows him as Wallace Smith Fearn of Browns Croft, Old Basford, died on 5th June 1917 whilst on war service, his effects of 3215 12 shillings and 6 pence were left to Elizabeth Hodgkinson (wife of Charles William Hodgkinson)
Corporal Wallace Smith Fearn, enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Old Basford he served with the 2/7th Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment (Robin Hood Rifles), he was killed in action on 5th June 1917 by German shellfire at Bilhem Farm near Neuville, France. He is buried in Metz-en-Couture Communal Cemetery British Cemetery.
