Family History

He was the son of John William and Eliza Marsden and the brother of Joseph, Selina, Walter, William, Lydia and Winnie Marsden. In 1911 they lived at Warsop Villas, Warsop Road, Mansfield Woodhouse.

Military History

George Marsden enlisted at Shirebrook and served with 9th Battalion at Gallipoli and in Egypt. The battalion moved to France in July 1916 and after a month on the Arras front, moved to the Somme. George was killed in action on the first day of the Battle of Thiepval and has no known grave. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
