David Irving was born in 1889 at Newark, he was the son of Francis a tailor and Margaret Irving née Hodgson. Francis Irving was born in 1869 at Appleby, Westmorland, Margaret Hodgson was born in 1872 at Settle, married in 1894 at Settle they had two other children, William b1896 Scotland, Benjamin b1898 Ulverston. His pension record card shows his next of kin as Rebecca Goodwin (aunt & Foster mother) of The Laurels, Alfreton Road, Sutton in Ashfield.

Military History

Private David Irving enlisted at Mansfield whilst residing at Sutton in Ashfield, he served with the 8th Devonshire Regiment and was killed in action on 17th January 1917 and is buried in Ancre British Cemetery, Beaumont Hamel, France.
