Arthur Housley was born in 1881 the son of William a fish dealer and Harriett Housley née Wright of 30 Bentinck Street, Sutton in Ashfield. William was born in 1848 at Sutton in Ashfield, Harriett Wright was born in 1852 at Blidworth they were married in 1874 at Mansfield and went on to have 5 children, sadly one died in infancy or early childhood. Arthur married Hampless Burton (born 28th March 1884 ) on 31st October 1903 at the Mansfield register office, they lived at 4 Parliament Street, Sutton in Ashfield, they had the following children, Harriet Elsie born 5th November 1903, Edith born 7th January 1905, Cecil born 13th July 1906, Frank born 24th July 1909 and Lily born 8th August 1913 and Grace born 1914 In 1911 the family lived at 1 Redcliffe Street Sutton in Ashfield Arthur is 30 yrs and a coal miner hewer, he is living with his wife Hampless 27 yrs and their children. Commencing 26th February 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 24 shillings and 6 pence aw eek.
Private Arthur Housley enlisted at Sutton in Ashfield, he was killed in action on 6th August 1916 and is buried in Delville Wood Cemetery, Longueval (grave ref. XXII.Q.6).
