Family History

Joseph Gershom Hall was born in 1890 the son of Edwin a wool weaver and Mary Ann Hall née Boot and the brother of Harold, Sarah, Mary Elizabeth, Frank and George Albert Hall. Edwin was born in 1848 at Sutton in Ashfield, Mary Ann Boot was born in 1854 at Mansfield, they were married in 1875 at Mansfield, In 1911, the family lived at 46, Station Street, Sutton in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire. Joseph married Harriett Poplar (born 7th March 1890 ) at Providence Hall, Sutton in Ashfield on 17th February 1915 they lived at 46 Station Street, Sutton in Ashfield they had a daughter Gladys born 22nd July 1915, she died however on 14th March 1918. Commencing 15th March 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week.

Military History

Private Joseph Gershom Hall enlisted at Sutton in Ashfield, he was killed in action on 10th June 1917 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Menin Gate, Panel 55 Ypres.
