Family History

William Poole was born in 1893 at Hucknall and was the son of Thomas and Mary Poole of Grove Tavern, 12 Queen's Bridge Road, Mansfield. William was their only son. In the 1911 census Thomas and Mary Anne Poole, at 83 Portland Road, West Bridgford, Thomas died in 1915. William's sister, Marjorie, was still living at the Grove Tavern at the time of her brother's death.

Military History

Private William Poole, served with the 2nd Battalion Leicestershire Regiment, he died of wounds at the 20th Field Ambulance in Mesopotamia on 23rd February 1917. He is buried in Amara War Cemetery, Iraq.
