Family History

Arthur Page was born on 25th May 1888 at Ruddington he was the son of the late John Page a fishmonger and Elizabeth Page née Hallam, of Savages Row, Ruddington. John was born in 1856 at Ruddington, he died in 1901 aged 45 years, Elizabeth Hallam was born in 1859 at Gotham, they were married in 1877 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they had 7 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood. Arthur married Agnes Evelyn Gilkes (born 26th July 1887) on 10th April 1908 at the Nottingham registry office, they lived at 9 Tealey Terrace, Glebe Street, Nottingham they had 3 children, Phyllis Evelyn Page (1907-1991). Marjorie Lucy Page (1911-1992) and Clarice May Page (1914 -2007). In 1911 they lived at 12 Loughborough Terrace, Ryland Crescent, Nottingham, Arthur 22 yrs is a brick maker, he is living with his wife Agnes Evelyn 22 yrs and their daughter Phillis Evelyn 3 yrs. In the same 1911 census his widowed mother is living at Savages Row, Ruddington, she is 52 yrs of age and is living with her children, Thomas Henry 25 yrs a brick burner, Herbert 18 yrs and Hannah 14 yrs. Commencing 24th June 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 29 shillings and 7 pence a week.

Military History

Private Arthur Page enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the Sherwood Foresters Regiment he was killed in action on 2nd December 1917, during a German attack of the line at La Vacquerie, France. His name is commemorated on Cambrai Memorial, Louverval, France. Panel 8.
