Family History

Walter Buckley was born in 1892 the son of William Weston a coal miner hewer and Phoebe Ellen Buckley nee Slack of 4 Charlesworth Street, Sutton in Ashfield. Both William and Phoebe were born in 1868 at Sutton in Ashfield, they were married on 1st March 1890 and went on to have 14 children, sadly 7 were to die in infancy or early childhood.

Military History

Private Walter Buckley enlisted at Doncaster whilst residing at Sutton in Ashfield, he was killed in action on 16th September 1916 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
