He was the son of Betsy Poole and the brother of Emma, Samuel and Clara Poole. In 1881, they lived at 8, John's Square Sneinton, Nottingham. By 1891, Emma was head of household and the four siblings lived at 9, Belgrave Square, Sneinton. In 1901, Poole was serving with the Royal Marines in barracks at Chatham. In November 1919, Harry married Harriet Grace Foster at Nottingham but the couple separated in February 1920 (Nottingham Evening Post, 19/7/1920, page 3).

Military History

Harry Poole enlisted 22/12/1899 giving his date of birth as 13/3/1881. However, his birth was registered A/M/J 1879 so his probable date of birth was 15/3/1879. He cited Emma Poole, his sister, as next of kin. She by then lived at 15, Manor Avenue, and later at 3, Minerva Place, Keswick Street (both Sneinton). He re-enlisted 22/12/1911. In addition to spells ashore at Chatham, Poole served aboard Irresistible, Wildfire, Resolution, Endymion, Croesus, Natal, Hyacinth, Balmoral, Cyclpos II and Victorious III. Throughout his marines career, Pool's conduct was good or very good. He was invalided out of the service 22/10/1919 and died at Nottingham J/A/S/1920.
