Family History

Joseph Reginald (Reggie) Crooks was born in 1895 in Carrington, the son of Clement John and Mary Elizabeth Crooks née Needham.His father Clement John Crooks was born in 1866 in Holloway, Derbyshire, and his mother Mary Elizabeth Needham was also born in 1866 in Ashover, Derbyshire. They were married on 3rd June 1888 at Ashover and went on to have four children, sadly one was to die in infancy. Their surviving children were all born in Carrington and were: Harry b1891, Joseph Reginald b1895 and Doris b1900. In the 1911 census the family are living at 15 Crossley Street, Haydn Road, Sherwood, and are shown as John 45 yrs a domestic gardener, who is living with his wife Mary 45 yrs and their children Harry 20 yrs a baker confectioner, Reggie 15 yrs a lace curtain draughtsman and Doris 11 yrs scholar.

Military History

Joseph Reginald enlisted at Nottingham and served with the 2nd Battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps. He landed in France on 19th May 1915 and was killed in action on 31st May 1915. He is buried in Woburn Abbey Cemetery, Cuinchy, France (grave ref. II.A.20).
