Thomas Hardy

Thomas Hardy (junior) was born in 1895 at Nottingham and was the son of Thomas Hardy (senior) a coal and corn merchant and his first wife Elizabeth Cooke. His father Thomas was born in 1868 at Arnold and his mother Elizabeth Cook was born in 1872. They were married in 1894 at Nottingham and had the following children: Thomas b1895 and Edith b1897, both born in Nottingham. His mother died in 1900 aged 28 yrs In the 1901 census the family was living at 3, Morris Street, Shirebrook, and are shown as Thomas 33 yrs a grocers clerk and a widower. He is living with his children, Thomas 6 yrs and Edith 4 yrs. Also living at the address is Fanny Baildham 20 yrs a domestic servant. Thomas remarried in 1901 at Mansfield to his housekeepr/servant Fanny Baildham and they have the following children: Florence Hetty b1902 Nottingham, William Arthur b1906 Nottingham, Charles Leonard b1909 Newark,, Millicent Lizzie b1911 Newark, Grace b1914 Newark and James Henry b1917 Blaby, Leicestershire. In the 1911 census the family are living at 7 Guildhall Street, Newark and are shown as Thomas 43 yrs a coal and corn merchant manager, he is living with his wife Fanny and his children, Thomas 16 yrs a corn merchants assistant, Edith 14 yrs, Florence Hetty 9 yrs, William Arthur 5 yrs, Charles Leonard 2 yrs and Millicent Lizzie 2 months of age. By the time of Thomas Hardy's (junior) death his family was living at 25 Grimston Road, Nottingham.
