Family History

George Bean was born in 1895 son of the late John a frame work knitter and the late Henrietta Bean née Selby of Hardwick Lane Sutton in Ashfield. John was born in 1850 at Sutton in Ashfield he died in 1912 aged 62 yrs, Henrietta Slaney was born in 1853 at Mansfield she died in 1899 aged 46 yrs, married in 1873 their marriage was recorded in the Mansfield registration district, they went on to have 10 children, 1 of whom died in infancy or early childhood. George married Gertrude Slaney (born 23rd June 1894) in 1918, they lived at 42 Sadler Street, Mansfield. Commencing 10th February 1919 his widow Gertrude was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week.

Military History

Private George Bean enlisted at Mansfield whilst residing at Sutton in Ashfield, he initially served with the service number 16336 Notts & Derby Regiment (Sherwood Foresters) he was killed in action on 21st July 1918 and is buried at Klein-Vierstraat British Cemetery, Belgium.
