He was the husband of Rebecca Ann Crawley who was born in Nottingham. He was the father of Charles Henry Crawley. His siblings, both born at Boston, were Violet a pinafore machinist and Lillian a bookbinder.
DCM Citation;208 Sergeant C. W. Crawley, 1/7th (Robin Hood)Bn, Notts. & Derby R, T.F. (LG 9th Oct 1915) For conspicuous gallantry near Ypres on the night of 30th-31st July, 1915, when, with the assistance of four others, he brought in over 20 wounded men of another Regiment and several of his own under artillery and rifle fire. These wounded men were lying out in front of a new trench which had been dug during the night' Crawley was killed in action in Northern France on 13/10/1915, but his body was never recovered. However, his name was recorded on the Loos Memorial Panel 87 to 89.
