He was the son of Norris and Henrietta Hunt and the brother of William, Gertrude, Herbert and Ethel Hunt. In 1881, the family lived at 42, Radford Road, Hyson Green and in 1891 at 2, Orange Street (both Nottingham). He married Emma Fearey at Nottingham in 1896 and they had two children - Edith and Harold Hunt. In 1901, they lived at 4, Berlin Terrace, Meadows, and in 1911 at 24, Hartford Street, Nottingham.

Thiepval Memorial, Pier and Face 10 C 10 D and 11 A Bert Hunt, Norris Hunt's great nephew notes 'Norris and my grandfather Herbert Hunt were in the Robin Hood Rifles prior to the Great War. Norris's son Harold Hunt was wounded and gassed on the Somme in the same 17th Northern Division as his father, as he was serving with 12th Manchester Regiment. Herbert Hunt... was a sniper with the 5th Bn Leicestershire Regiment. William Norris Hunt served with the R.F.A. and they were fortunate enough to survive the war.'
