William was the son of William and Elizabeth Harrison. At the time of the 1911 Census William's mother was the head of the household; she had been married for 21 years and had had five children of whom only three were still living. Four children were named on the 1901 Census: Martha, William, Owen (birth registered 1895 J/F/M) and Mary. Owen has not yet been traced on either the 1911 Census or the Death Index but an 'In Memoriam' notice published in the local paper in 1916 on the anniversary of William's death describes William as the 'only son of Elizabeth Harrison', although the notice was placed by 'mother, sisters and brother, (father abroad).' In 1901 William (31), a coal hewer, and Elizabeth (30), were living at 3 Barton Terrace, Meadows, with their four children; Martha (10), William (9), Owen (6) and Mary (3). By 1911 Elizabeth was head of household and living at 11 Meredith Terrace, Hawthorne Street, Meadows, with her children Martha (20) a hosiery hand, William (19) a collier, and Mary (13) who was still at school. The family was still living at 11 Meredith Terrace in August 1916 when an 'In Memoriam' notice was placed in the Nottingham Evening Post.
He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Helles Memorial (Panel Reference: Panel 171 to 173).

Killed in action, 9th August 1915, Private William Harrison, Yorks. and Lancs. aged 23 years, the dearly beloved and only son of Elizabeth Harrison, 11 Meredith-terrace, Hawthorne-street, Meadows.
