Family History

George Henry Raybould was born on 3rd July 1889 at Danesmoor, Derbyshire, he was baptised on 25th July 1889 at Clay Cross, he was the son of the late Thomas coal miner and the late Mary Shawcroft of Meden Bank, Mansfield. Thomas was born in 1850 at Gornall, Staffordshire, he died in 1898 aged 48 yrs, Mary Shawcroft was born in 1850 at Alfreton she died in 1892 aged 42 yrs, they were married on 24th July 1871 at St Lawrence Church, North Wingfield, Derbyshire, they had 9 children. George Henry married Emily Poyser (born 5th January 1893 Grassmoor) ) in 1910 their marriage was recorded in the Mansfield registration district, they had a daughter Doris born 5th January 1913 they lived at 106 Meden Bank, Mansfield. In the 1911 census the family lived at 106 Meden Bank, Mansfield, he was 21 yrs old he was a coal miner hewer, he is living with his wife Emily 18 yrs of age. Commencing 11th October 1915 his widow was awarded a pension of 15 shillings a week, His widow remarried on 13th June 1916 to Charles William Barr a coal miner.

Military History

Private George Henry Raybould enlisted at Mansfield, he initially served with the service number 11963 in the Leicestershire Regiment. He landed in France on 11th February 1915. He died of wounds on 28th March 1915 and is buried at Hedge Row Trench Cemetery, Belgium.
