George Henry Watson was born in 1894 and was the only son of Edward a school caretaker and Florence Watson née Parks and they lived at 7 Clipstone Street, Mansfield Woodhouse, Nottinghamshire, Edward was born in 1869 in India, Florence Parks was born in 1872 at Burton Joyce, they were married in 1893 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district. in 1911 the family were living at 18 Clipstone Road, Forest Town, Edward is 42 yrs and a school caretaker, he is living with his wife Florence 39 yrs and their son George Henry 17 yrs a pony driver in a coal mine. George Henry married Ruth Florence Berry whom he married in 1914 at Mansfield they had two children , George b1914 and Tryphena born 1919 they lived at 2 Union Street, Sutton in Ashfield.

Military History

Private George Henry Watson enlisted on 9th August 1914, he served with the 1st battalion Sherwood Foresters regiment, landing in France on 28th June 1914. He was discharged from the Army on 8th February 1918 and issued with Silver War Badge number B325955 . He died on 25th September 1919 and is buried in Sutton in Ashfield Cemetery, Nottinghamshire.
