Family History

Arthur Francis was born in 1884 the eldest son of Isaac and Annie Francis. He was the brother of Arthur, Ada, Lily and Isaac Francis. In 1901, they lived at 26 Belle Vue Road, Blue Bell Hill Road and later at 12, Shaftesbury Street, Alfred Street South, (both St Ann's, Nottingham). He was the husband of Florrie Amelia Francis.

Military History

Either a Regular or recalled Reservist, Arthur Francis landed in France on 20th September 1914 and was wounded in action on 12th March 1915. He was evacuated to England and was treated at a hospital in Folkstone. He died of his wounds at King George Hospital, Stamford Street, London on 21st August 1915. He was buried at Brompton Cemetery.

Notice of his death was published in the Nottingham Evening Post on 23rd August 1915:- “FRANCIS. – Died, August 21st, of wounds received March 12th, Arthur, 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards, eldest son of Isaac Francis, aged 31 years. Died whilst doing his duty.”
