Family History

George Rowe (junior) was born in 1883 at Bingham, he was the son of George (senior) a grocer and draper and Mary Rowe née Upton of Bingham. George Rowe (senior) was born in 1832 and Sarah Upton was born in 1845 both were born at Bingham, they were married in 1862 at Bingham and had 10 children. George (junior) married Beatrice Louisa Street (born 5th August 1888) at St Marys Church , Donyatt, Ilminster on 13th January 1910 and went on to have the following children, Phyllis Mary born 15th May 1910, Wyndham Eli born 10th June 1911 and Cecil George born 3rd March 1913 , all were born in Chard, Somerset they lived at Donyatt. In the 1911 census he is living at Donyatt village, Ilminster and is shown as George 28 yrs a farm labourer, he is living with his wife Beatrice 23 yrs and their daughter Phyllis 11 months. Following his death his widow Beatrice was awarded a pension of 22 shillings and six pence for her and her three children, to commence on 22nd July 1915.

Military History

Private George Rowe, enlisted on 29th April 1901 at Nottingham, he was 18 yrs and 2 months , he was a carter and served with the Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment, he was discharged on 28th April 1913 having served his time with the colours and placed into the reserves. When was declared he was embodied back into his old regiment and it was whilst serving with the 3rd battalion that he died on 29th August 1914 at the Military Hospital at Devonport due to pneumonia. he is buried in Plymouth (Weston Mill) Cemetery.
