Cecil Frederick Marriott was the eldest son off William Henry Marriot and Emily Jane Marriott née Oliver of 85, Percival Rd., Sherwood, Nottingham.His father William Henry Marriott was born in 1863 at Nottingham and his mother Emily Jane Oliver was born in 1868 at Devonport, they were married on 25th June 1895 at Sea Point South Africa and went on to have the following children, Cecil Frederick b 1898 South Africa, Ralph b1900 South Africa and Neville Oliver b1909 Brentford, England. In the 1911 census Cecil Frederick Marriott is living at 60 Humber Road, Blackheath London, he is shown as being 13 yrs of age and is living with his mother Emily 43 yrs and his brothers Ralph 11 yrs and Neville 1 year of age they are living with his mothers cousin Dora Friend 36 yrs.
Corporal Cecil Frederick Marriott, enlisted at Nottingham and initially served with the service number 27116 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He landed in France on 10th August 1915. He was serving with the 189th Company, “Chemists' Section,” Royal Engineers, when he died of wounds at No. 38 Field Ambulance, on 3rd October 1915. He is buried in Mazingarbe Communal Cemetery.(grave ref. 65)
