He lived at 4, Sabina Road, Alfred Street South with family members before emigration to the USA in June 1911. His parents George and Mary Jarratt lived at 'Glen Maye', Conway Road, Carlton Nottingham.

John Henry Jarratt's great, great nephew Alistair Jarratt notes: 'John enlisted in New York Jul '17, sent to France Mar '18 and killed on 5th Apr '18: in France for 15 days. As living in New York he is not remembered on any UK war memorial. It would be fitting to add him to a memorial in St Ann's.'
