Frank Robinson was born in 1884 in Farnsfield and was the son of Tom a carrier and Catherine Robinson née Muns Chapman of Mansfield Road, Farnsfield. His father Tom was born in 1851 in Farnsfield and his mother Catherine was born in 1853 at Stamford, Lincolnshire, they were married on 16th February 1878 their marriage was recorded in the York registration district and had the following children, Harry b1879, William b1881, Arthur b1883 and Frank b1884 all were born in Farnsfield. Frank married his wife Annie Elizabeth South on 23rd September 1907 at South Muskham, at this time they were living at 23 Cambridge Street, Mansfield, they went on to have two children, Frank born 20th July 1908 at Little Carlton and Arthur born 28th May 1916 at Mansfield. In the 1911 census the family are living at 26 Elgie Terrace, Moor Street, Mansfield and are shown as Frank 27 yrs a shop assistant for a furniture dealer, he is living with his wife Annie Elizabeth 25 yrs and their son Francis 2 yrs. Following his death his widow Annie received a pension of 22 shillings and 11 pence a week in respect of herself and her two children.
Lance Corporal Frank Robinson attested on 8th December 1915 at Mansfield, he gave his age as 31 yrs and 248 days, his address as 34 Cambridge Street, Mansfield and his occupation as a bread van man, his next of kin was his wife Annie of the same address, he was posted to the reserves. He was mobilised for war on 15th June 1916 at Derby and posted to the 11th battalion South Staffordshire Regiment. He was promoted to Lance Corporal on 12th September 1916 and landed in France on 19th December 1916 and was transferred to the 15th battalion Durham Light Infantry. He was killed in action on 4th October 1917 and his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, panel 192.
