Family History

John Albert Hall was born in 1893 he was the son of the late Samuel a farm labourer and Mary Hall née Sumner Widdowson of Cropwell Bishop Nottinghamshire. His father Samuel was born in 1857 at Wellington, Lincolnshire, he died in 1908 aged 51 yrs, his mother Mary Sumner Widdowson was born in 1867 at Cropwell Bishop, they were married in 1879 their marriage was recorded in the Bingham registration district, they went on to have 10 children. By 1911 John has moved out of the family home, he is living at Old Dalby near Melton Mowbray, he is 17 yrs and an agricultural labourer, living with James Orson 33 yrs a grazier and his family. John emigrated to Canada where he enlitsted into the Canadian Army on 28th December 1915

Military History

Private John Albert Hall enlisted on 28th December 1915, at Russell. Manatoba, Canada he stated he was 21 yrs 7 months and his date of birth was 7th May 1893 he was a cook/farmer and his next of kin was his mother Mary Hall of Cropwell Bishop, England. Posted to the 78th battalion Canadian Infantry he was killed in action on 2nd September 1918 and is buried at Dury Mill British Cemetery
