Family History

Lewis Edwin Boam was baptised on 13th November 1892 at Winster, he was the son of George a coal miner hewer and Jane Boam née Walker and the brother of Elsie, Walter and Charles Boam. In 1911 they lived on Main Street Matlock Bath. George was born in 1862 at Winster, Jane Walker was born in 1865 at Elton, they were married in 1884 their marriage was recorded in the Bakewell registration district, they went on to have 9 children. Lewis married Annie Woodhouse in 1913 and was the father of Annie Boam born 1914 who later lived at 31 Appletree Road, Stanfree, Chesterfield.

Military History

Private Lewis Edwin Boam enlisted on 4th August 1915 at Matlock, Derbyshire. He was taken prisoner, 22nd March 1918 and died, 10th October 1918, aged 26, whilst working in a coal mine as a prisoner of war. Buried : Poznan Old Garrison Cemetery, Poland. Plot 2. Row A. Grave 3.
