Alfred was the son of John Dunham Phillimore and Elizabeth Phillimore (née Roberts) and the brother of Annie, Gertrude and Florence Phillimore. In 1901 they lived at 114 Alfreton Road Nottingham. On 19th November 1911 John Dunham Phillimore his wife Elizabeth and daughter Florence Louise left Bristol aboard the Royal George for Quebec Canada. At the time of Alfred's draft into the Canadian Army his father was living at 1023 Alder Avenue, Moose Jaw Saskatchewan.
Alfred was drafted into the Canadian Army at Winnipeg on 8th January 1918 and had a medical at Winnipeg on 13th October 1917. He arrived in England on 16th February 1918 and landed in France on 4th May 1918. He was killed in action on 21st October 1918 and was buried in Roeulx Communal Cemetery
Obituary published in Nottingham Evening Post, dated 16th December 1918:- PHILLIMORE. - Killed in action October 21st, Alfred Phillimore, 44th Canadians, only son of J. D. Phillimore, Moosejaw, Sask.
