Robert Lineker

Pioneer Robert Lineker, enlisted into the Canadian Army at Shorncliffe, Canada on 2nd August 1916 he served with 2nd Battalion Canadian Pioneers, he was killed in action on 5th April 1917. He is buried in Ecoivres Military Cemetery, Mont-St. Eloi.Grave Reference: V.B.II

Nottingham Evening Post obituary (abridged), 17 April 1917: 'Lineker. Killed in action April 5th, Private R Lineker, Canadians, 57 Norwood Road, age 25. Mother, brothers, sisters.' Following in memoriam appeared on 5th April 1918 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “LINEKER. – In loving memory of our dear son, Pnr. R. Lineker, Canadians, killed by shell April 5th, 1917. Oh, why was he taken so young and so fair, from mother and father who loved him so dear? Hard was the blow that compelled us to part, with one so loving and dear to our hearts, – From loving mother and father. “LINEKER. – In loving memory of our dear brother, Pnr. R. Lineker, Canadians, killed April 5th, 1917. – Sam (Salonika), Jack (Canadians), Jim (R.E.), Frank, and chum Ernest. “LINEKER. – In loving memory of our dear brother Pnr. R. Lineker, killed April 5th, 1917.
