Archie Bertie Chamberlain was born in 1882 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late Benjamin a confectioner and Eliza Chamberlain née Culley . Benjamin was born in 1845 at Bradmore, Eliza Culley was born in 1847 at Hathersage, they were married in 1868 at Nottingham, they had 6 children. Archie married Gertrude Mary Horner (born 21st June 1884) in 1906 at Nottingham, they lived at Station Road, Ruddington, they had 2 sons Arthur Millward born 13th June 1907 and Archibald James born in 1910. In the 1911 census the family are living at 31 Conway Street, Nottingham, Archie Bertie 28 yrs is a commercial clerk, he is living with his wife Gertrude 26 yrs and their sons Arthur Millward 3 yrs and Archibald James 1 year of age. Commencing 28th January 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 18 shillings and 9 pence a week.

Military History

Private Archie Bertie Chamberlain enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the10th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, Landing in France on 11th September 1915, he was killed in action 9th July 1917, aged 34 whilst serving in the trenches on the Black Line near Arras, France, he is buried at Sunken Road, Cemetery, Fampoux, France, plot 1 row b grave 8
